Zi Wei Dou Shu vs BaZi: High-Level Differences
Zi Wei Dou Shu and BaZi both start from a birth and then diverge in the objects they place on the page. BaZi places stems and branches in four pillars and reads them through the day master, the ten gods, and the balance of elements. Zi Wei Dou Shu places a set of stars into palaces — life, siblings, spouse, career, and the rest of that traditional ring — and reads the chart through those stars and their transformations. The procedures are not interchangeable. PastLifeTest casts BaZi, light and full. Zi Wei is outside what this site casts. We do not sell Zi Wei charts.
Key facts
- You will not find a palace wheel, a Zi Wei star, or a transformation named hua lu, hua quan, hua ke, or hua ji on our chart pages.
- You will find year, month, day, and hour pillars when the hour is known, plus ten gods and a useful-god note on the light reading.
- The full chart adds a longer professional note, spirits, pattern language, and luck cycles. The shelf price is $19.99. Light is $12.99. Neither is a star-palace upsell.
- Solar terms bound our months. A Zi Wei chart’s lunar-month handling is its own rule set, and we do not run it.
- Good Day does not borrow Zi Wei stars to rank a date. It uses the almanac.
- Qi Men plates are likewise not for sale. Scope stays on pillars and on civil dates.
Palaces and stars
A Zi Wei chart is busy in a different way from a pillar chart. Major stars are set from the birth’s lunar data and the hour, then minor stars fill palaces, then a school’s transformation rules mark a few stars as especially active for the decade or the year. English introductions sometimes call it the “purple star” system. The nickname does not make it a Western natal chart, and it does not make it BaZi with prettier icons. Someone fluent in one can be a beginner in the other. That is normal.
We will not list star meanings here. A list would look like a product we do not compute. High-level contrast is the responsible depth: palaces are houses of a life topic arranged by one algorithm; pillars are a grid of stems and branches arranged by another. Both can talk about work and partnership. They do not therefore agree, and a sentence that says “your spouse palace matches your day branch” is a sentence we will not certify.
Pillars and the day master
On our cast the day stem is the reference point called the day master. Other stems become ten gods relative to it. Branches carry hidden stems. The month command, from the solar term, weighs heavily in strength language. Luck cycles on the full chart move in ten-year steps derived from the birth, not in the decade palaces of Zi Wei. If those phrases are unfamiliar, they are still the phrases our pages will actually use. Learning them is learning this product. Learning star names is learning a different product you will have to obtain elsewhere.
Place and daylight saving affect our hour pillar because the hour is a real clock converted through a zone and then to apparent solar time. A Zi Wei hour is also sensitive to the clock, under that art’s own boundary rules. Do not paste an hour branch from our note into someone else’s star software and assume the palaces were what we intended. We intended the pillars.
Date selection stays almanac-shaped
Stars do not enter the wedding score
Readers sometimes hope a star’s decade will pick a wedding day. Our wedding rank looks for 嫁娶 on the suitable or unsuitable list, then path and officer, then an optional clash with year branch or day pillar. Stars do not enter. Ten gods do not enter that rank either. The birth chart and the date tool are neighbors, not a single machine. Using the chart as guidance for a life reading and the almanac as guidance for a civil date is the split we can explain. Using either as a substitute Zi Wei decade is the split we refuse.
The past-life quiz is entertainment fiction. A palace called “previous life” in some translated Zi Wei notes is not our quiz, and our quiz is not a palace. Do not cite a story card as a star. Do not cite a star we never cast as a story. BaZi and Good Day are not fiction and not entertainment.
A practical expectation
Open Light BaZi if you want the pillar grid and a short professional reading. Open the full chart if you want the longer timing language we actually maintain. Bring a true time or accept a blank hour. Do not write to ask us to add the purple star as a courtesy. The boundary is deliberate. Qi Men, Vedic charts, and Zi Wei stay outside the engine so the engine can be checked. Medical, legal, and financial advice stay outside for a different, equally firm reason.
What this is not
This is not a Zi Wei lesson and not a coded star dictionary. It is not a claim that palaces are false or that pillars are complete. It is a catalog boundary. We do not sell Zi Wei charts. We do not hide them inside the full BaZi price. Guidance means the tools we cast. Fiction means the quiz.
