Mid-Autumn Gatherings and Soft Timing

Mid-Autumn is the lunar gathering on the fifteenth of the eighth lunar month, and the civil date moves around the Western calendar. Pick a Good Day can rank days inside the stretch you can actually host or travel. It cannot promise a peaceful table, full attendance, or a clear moon. Soft timing is a preference among real options, not harmony the festival owes you.

Key facts

  • The festival follows the lunar month. It is not a solar term and not the BaZi year boundary.
  • A gathering is closest to the meeting occasion, or to travel if the hard part is the journey. Pick the occasion you mean.
  • Yellow path, black path, day officer, and the suitable or unsuitable lines are properties of the civil date.
  • A birth date, if you add one, only checks clash. It does not read a family’s charts and does not need an hour.
  • School nights, shift work, and rent money beat a higher score.
  • The same window always sorts the same way. You need not believe the system for the sort to be stable.

Choose the occasion that matches the friction

If everyone is already in town and the question is which evening to lay the table, a meeting-style rank is the nearer tool: friends gathering, agreements, the social day. If the question is which train to book, switch the occasion to travel and rank the departure window, not the moon. Mixing them produces a date that is kind to neither question.

The festival night itself may be non-negotiable because that is when the family defines the holiday. Then the almanac is descriptive, not selective. Use it on the movable pieces: the night before, for people who cannot get the exact evening; the weekend after, for a second, smaller table; the day you shop or travel so the exact night stays free.

Hosts who are also freelancers often pretend the festival is a pause while invoices remain due. Cash timing is not an almanac moral. Look at freelancer milestones if the real constraint is a client, not the moon. Parents dealing with bedtimes and split households should start from parent logistics, not from a wish that the chart will reconcile two homes.

What soft timing refuses to say

It refuses “the moon will fix the argument.” It refuses “a black-path day means skip your mother.” Black path is a rank penalty in our method, two points, not an omen about kinship. Day-officer names such as Danger or Destruction are technical labels in the twelve-officer cycle. They are not threats. Definitions sit in the glossary.

Guests, absences, and no chart of the table

Do not collect birth times around the table to see who “clashes” the host. That game turns a meal into an audit. Optional birth data on the good-day form is the planner’s own date, used as a clash filter, and it is optional. Sex at birth is not asked. Luck cycles are not computed. If you want your own Four Pillars, that is a separate tool, and an unknown hour there blanks the hour pillar rather than inventing one.

People who cannot attend have not failed the festival. Distance, illness, estrangement, and shift work are reasons. A ranked day does not summon them. If the season brings up loss, keep remembrance gentle and do not force Mid-Autumn to do Qingming’s job. The quieter note is Qingming timing. Crisis help, if someone is unsafe, is local emergency services, not a date page.

Weather and the actual moon

Clouds are not in the score. A perfectly ranked evening can be overcast. Plan the meal for the people, not for a photograph of the moon. If you are only free on a date the almanac ranks low, hold the meal. Courtesy and attendance are the success conditions. The rank is a tie-breaker when two evenings are otherwise equal.

The lunar-versus-solar distinction, so you do not treat this full moon as a BaZi month gate, is on solar terms vs lunar festival dates.

A simple order of decisions

Fix the guest list you can really invite. Fix the city and the budget. Fix any non-negotiable festival night. Only then rank the leftover dates. Tell guests the time in the civil calendar they use, with a time zone. An auspicious label is a poor substitute for “Saturday at seven, this address.”

Skeptics can treat the leftover rank as a coin flip with a published rule, which is the stance on a skeptic’s guide. Believers can treat it as customary preference. The software does not check which of those you are. It returns the order.

What this is not

This is not a family-therapy session and not a promise of reunion. It is not a BaZi compatibility reading of the guests. It is not financial advice about gifts or travel. It is not entertainment. Almanac guidance ranks a window. It does not guarantee the feeling in the room.
