Zodiac Clash Days in Almanacs Explained Calmly

Almanac pages say a day “clashes” an animal. The sentence sounds personal. It is, first, a statement about the day itself. Each day has a branch. That branch stands opposite one other branch. The opposite animal is the day’s clash, printed whether or not you type a birthday. Pick a Good Day shows that public clash on every line. It subtracts points only when the clash touches your year branch or the branch of your day pillar. The subtraction is a sorting rule. It is not a hex.

Key facts

  • The six opposite pairs are Rat–Horse, Ox–Goat, Tiger–Monkey, Rabbit–Rooster, Dragon–Dog, and Snake–Pig. In branch names: Zi–Wu, Chou–Wei, Yin–Shen, Mao–You, Chen–Xu, Si–Hai.
  • The card’s clash line is that public opposite. Everyone who looks up the same date sees it.
  • If you add a birth date and the day’s clash animal is your year branch, the score drops by six.
  • If the candidate day’s own branch is opposite the branch inside your day pillar, the score drops by four.
  • Both can fire on one date when your year branch and day branch are the same animal. A locked example: birth 1991-03-02, year branch Wei and day pillar Xin Wei, against 2026-10-06 (day Gui Chou, which clashes Wei). A travel score that had been 2 becomes −8.
  • No other animal math runs. Ten gods are not applied. The month animal and the hour animal are not consulted, because this form has no hour.

The public clash, before anyone’s birthday

A day whose branch is Zi clashes the Horse. A day whose branch is Wu clashes the Rat. You can read that sentence without knowing a single birth. Traditional pages often advise extra care for the people of the clashed animal, especially for risky or ceremonial acts. Our card reports the clash and the sha direction beside it. It does not auto-fail the day for every Horse on earth. The public line is context. The personal penalty is separate and numeric.

Sha direction is a compass word: east, south, west, or north. It prints with the clash. It is not one of the point values. Peng Zu’s caution prints too, and it is not one of the point values. If you came to the page frightened by a screenshot of a clash animal, start by noticing how much of the card is description and how little of it is a penalty.

Year branch versus day pillar

The year branch we use is the year-pillar branch, counted from the start of spring, not a casual “I was born in 1991 so I am a Goat” guess made from 1 January. Early-year births can sit on the previous pillar. The day pillar is the sexagenary day of the birth date, two characters, and only its branch is compared. We do not clash your day stem. We do not look up your month pillar. Entering a birth date therefore answers a narrow question: does this candidate day strike those two branches?

The 1991-03-02 sample is useful because both branches are Wei. Chou clashes Wei, so the year penalty and the day-pillar penalty both apply, six plus four. Someone born the same year with a different day branch might lose only the six, or only the four, or neither. That is why two siblings can share a year animal in ordinary speech and still see different good-day notes.

What we deliberately do not subtract

We do not subtract for a clash with your month branch, your hour branch, or a spouse’s chart. We do not subtract because a friend is a Horse. We do not double the penalty for “serious” occasions. Travel, wedding, memorial, meeting, opening, and custom all use the same six and the same four. The rest of their scores differ because their activity lists differ, not because clash becomes harsher at a wedding. Custom already ignores activity names. Clash penalties still apply if a birth date is present.

A full BaZi reading can talk about clashes inside the birth chart itself, month against day, luck cycle against pillars. That conversation is the chart product. It is not rerun for every date in the window. Light and full charts are professional guidance at shelf prices $12.99 and $19.99. They are not a fear ladder.

How to use a clash note without drama

If the day clashes your year branch and you have other workable dates, preferring another date is a calm use of the tool. If the clashing day is the only day the registrar, the airline, or the hospital can offer, take the appointment. A six-point sort key does not outrank a real constraint. Do not cancel care because an animal was named. Treatment lines are hidden and do not rank. Do not cancel a legal filing. Do not tell a child they are “in clash” as if the week were dangerous.

You can leave the birth field blank. The public clash still shows. The personal penalties do not. For a group trip, blank is often the fairer shared view. Anyone who wants a private check can run one and keep the result personal.

What this is not

This is not a curse, a medical risk score, or a compatibility test between two people. It is not legal or financial advice. It is not entertainment. The penalty is part of a professional metaphysics ranking. It does not promise harm if you ignore it, and it does not promise safety if you obey it. The fiction quiz does not calculate clashes.
