Weekend Trips and Short Almanac Windows

A weekend trip is a small window with hard edges. You might leave Friday after work and be back Sunday night, or you might only have Saturday if Friday is a working day where you live. Pick a Good Day can score those few civil dates for travel. The useful habit is to rank the dates you can actually depart, not a mythical free weekend copied from another country.

Key facts

  • Travel scoring looks for the activity 出行. Suitable adds four. Unsuitable subtracts five. Path and day officer then adjust the same way they do on other named occasions.
  • A weekend is often only two or three dates. Short windows are allowed. The cap, if you ever need it, is one year.
  • The free view shows the best day inside the window you submitted. If you submit only Saturday and Sunday, the preview is the better of those two, not a secret Wednesday.
  • Whose weekend it is matters. Much of the US, UK, and EU rests Saturday and Sunday. Many Gulf offices still rest Friday and Saturday. The UAE and Saudi Arabia moved a large share of office life to Saturday and Sunday in 2022. Other Gulf states did not all follow.
  • Optional birth matching is a clash check on year branch and day pillar, not a ten-god itinerary.
  • The tool reads the civil dates you type. It does not convert them onto a single Beijing clock.

Build the window from the days you can leave

Choose travel as the occasion, then set the first and last date to the real candidates. A Thursday-to-Monday city break is five dates. A Saturday hike is one or two. There is no point ranking a fortnight if the leave request only covers one weekend. The same dates always produce the same order, so retyping the window tomorrow will not shuffle a “luckier” Saturday into being.

On travel, 出行 on the suitable list is the main positive activity match. If the same day also lists travel as unsuitable, the score is mixed and the unsuitable side is heavier, because five points come off for each unsuitable match and four come on for each suitable one. Yellow path adds two and black path removes two. Success (成) and Open (开) add two. Full (满) adds one. Close (闭) and Destruction (破) remove two. A locked sample in this engine, travel with no birth date from 1 to 21 October 2026, places 13 October first: day pillar Geng Shen, officer Open, spirit Golden Coffer, yellow path, travel listed as suitable, score 8. That sample teaches the arithmetic. It is not a claim that 13 October 2026 is a good departure for every reader in every city.

Outbound date and return date

You can rank the departure, the return, or a window that includes both. They are different questions. A smooth outbound day does not imply a smooth return. If only one of them is flexible, rank that one and let the ticket you already hold fix the other. Crossing midnight on a redeye means the civil date changes while you are in the air. Decide whether you mean the date you boarded or the date you landed, and type that date. The form will not infer it from a flight number.

The weekend is local

A reader in Phoenix does not gain a Friday holiday because a colleague in London has one, and a reader in Doha does not lose Friday because a New York office is open. Before you open the tool, write down the dates you are actually off work. Then rank those. If family lunch, a school play, or congregational prayer already fills one of them, remove it from the window. Practical plans win over a higher path score on a day you will not use.

What the card shows besides the number

Each ranked line names the day pillar, the officer, the path spirit, why the occasion fit, the day’s clash animal, the sha direction, Peng Zu’s caution, and activities to avoid. For a short trip the clash and the sha direction are traditional notes, not a ban on a compass bearing. You do not have to cancel a northbound train because sha is printed as north. Read the note, then use ordinary travel sense: weather, visas, the last train, a hotel that still has a room.

A birth date adds a personal line only when the day clashes your year branch or your day pillar. Six points and four points are the only personal subtractions. Friends sharing a car can leave the birth field empty and share one public score, or each can run a private check and compare. Do not make one passenger’s year animal decide the car.

Clock changes and long flights

Inside the United States, daylight saving does not create an extra almanac day, but a spring-forward Sunday can make a morning departure feel an hour earlier than the schedule you memorized. In the UK and EU the changeover weekends differ from the US ones. Gulf civil time generally does not spring forward at all. None of that rewrites the day pillar of the date you typed. It does change whether you will be awake enough to enjoy the day you picked. If the trip is also a wedding, a move, or a memorial, rank that occasion separately. A travel score is not a wedding score.

What this is not

This is not a guarantee of calm roads, open borders, or a refundable fare. It is not medical advice about flying, jet lag, or fitness for travel. It is not legal advice about visas, and it is not financial advice about tickets or insurance. Hidden treatment lines do not rank and should not be read as a reason to travel or to stay. The ranking is professional guidance from a Chinese almanac. It is not a horoscope for your sun sign, and it is not an entertainment quiz.
