Auspicious Hours: When They Matter and When They Don’t
People ask for a lucky hour as if it were the same product as a lucky day. In the traditional Chinese clock, the day is twelve double-hours, each named for a branch, about two civil hours long. Some date-selection schools do pick one of those watches for the moment a rite begins. PastLifeTest does not. Pick a Good Day ranks civil dates. It has no hour field. If a birth hour matters, it matters on a BaZi chart, and even there the hour describes the birth, not the minute you should sign a lease.
Key facts
- The twelve branches as watches run, in order, from Zi through Hai. Exact edges depend on the clock you trust: a civil double-hour table, or true solar time at a longitude. We do not sell either table as an electional product.
- Good-day results name a day pillar, an officer, a path, activities, clash, sha direction, and Peng Zu. They do not name a recommended watch.
- Venue clocks, registrar slots, and airline departures usually choose the hour for you.
- A BaZi hour pillar exists only when you supply hour and minute and a usable place. Unknown hour leaves that pillar blank.
- Daylight saving can move which watch a civil clock hour falls into on a birth chart. It does not create an “auspicious hour” output on the date tool.
- Personalizing a good day still means year branch and day pillar only.
When an hour is a real constraint
A city hall may offer 10:15 or 14:40. A temple, a church, or a mosque may have its own timetable that this almanac does not govern. A surgeon’s list, if you are a patient, is clinical scheduling and is outside this product entirely. In all of those cases the hour is chosen by someone with authority you already accepted. Ranking days is useful only among days that still have a free slot. Once the slot is booked, the traditional watch is a commentary you may ignore. We will not tell you to arrive at 11:01 because a branch changed.
If you are free to choose both day and rough time — a home gathering with no officiant — ordinary kindness does more than a watch: not during someone’s shift, not across a child’s bedtime, not in the middle of a fast’s hardest hours. You can still prefer a higher-ranked day among the days everyone can attend. The hour inside that day can be the hour the kitchen can manage.
The twelve watches, only as orientation
Zi is the watch around midnight, Wu the watch around noon, in the usual equal double-hour sketch. The names match the earthly branches used in day pillars. Matching names do not mean the date tool has selected Zi or Wu for you. Schools that elect hours also argue about whether the watch is counted in Beijing standard time, in local mean solar time, or in apparent solar time. That argument is exactly why a casual app “lucky hour” is easy to fake and hard to audit. We keep it off the page rather than publish a number we do not stand behind.
A start time the building already set
Photographers, caterers, and landlords think in call times. If the building opens at 9:00, your guests will not experience a traditionally preferred watch that falls at 6:10. Use the day rank among days the building is free. Record the call time in the invitation in local civil time, with a UTC note if guests are abroad. Do not convert the call time to a Chinese double-hour and then treat that conversion as the product. The product stopped at the date.
Birth hours are a different question
On a chart, the hour pillar is one of four. It requires a clock time and a place. Listed cities pass through the zone, historical daylight saving included, then apparent solar time. The early-night and late-night Zi rule is part of that cast and is described on the chart note. None of those steps outputs “sign at this hour next Tuesday.” Luck cycles on the full chart are ten-year steps from the birth, not a menu of watches. Light BaZi is the shorter professional reading at $12.99. The full chart is $19.99. Both are guidance, not a timer for your phone.
If you do not know the birth hour, say so. A blank hour pillar is more honest than a noon you invented and then treated as fate. The good-day birth field would not have used that hour anyway.
What this is not
This page is not a hidden hour picker. It is not medical timing, legal timing, or financial timing advice. It does not claim that starting one minute earlier changes a contract’s outcome. Professional date selection here is about the day. Professional BaZi here is about a birth. Neither is entertainment, and neither is the fiction quiz. We do not sell Qi Men hour plates or Zi Wei hour methods under another name.
